One of the duties of the Pastor/Parish committee is to make an annual evaluation of the pastor as well as the church. It's quite thorough and similar to having an annual physical, taking the pulse of the church and examining its activities.

The questions cover worship, nurture/education, service, evangelism, stewardship, and administration.  It's good to take stock of where we are, consider areas to improve, and re-evaluate our goals.

Our mission statement and goal is to "Grow where we are gifted." That's  a good question for each of us to ask ourselves, "Am I developing my God-given talents?"

On a recent Sunday, Pastor Craig asked the question, "Why do you come to church?" I wish I had recorded all the answers! Some were "It's a sanctuary of peace and love:; to be with the fellowship of believers; to be inspired to face the week ahead; love is spoken here; for the experience of corporate worship  - prayer, sermon, music; here there is a genuine concern for each other and the welfare of the community; to be invigorated to try harder to be a better person."

I thought these responses indicated a healthy church, built on a foundation of love and service.

We are pleased to report that Pastor Craig and his family are happy to serve us another year. Our evaluation of the church showed high scores - but there is always room for improvement!

Recipe from Nancy

Peach & Raspberry Parfaits

2    medium sized peaches, rinsed and pitted
1    container raspberries, rinsed and gently patted dry
2    teaspoons of sugar
½   teaspoon vanilla extract
1 envelope dry whipped topping mix (such as Dream Whip)
½   cup 2% milk
1 container (6 ounces) vanilla yogurt
8    shortbread cookies (such as Lorna Doone)

Mint to garnish (optional)

Cut 1 ½ peaches into ½ inch pieces; reserve the remaining half for snacking, set aside 4 peach pieces and 4 raspberries for garnish.  In
a medium sized bowl gently stir together remaining peach pieces, remaining raspberries, sugar and vanilla.  Let stand 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine whipped topping mix and milk.  Beat on low speed for 1 minute, then increase speed to high and beat for 4 minutes
until fluffy and stiff (makes about 2 cups), fold 1 ½ cups of the whipped topping into yogurt in a small bowl (reserve remaining ½ cup topping)

Begin by layering, place about 1/4 cup in the bottom of 4 glasses.  Top each with ¼ cup of yogurt mixture.  Crumble one cookie into each glass. Repeat layering ending with cookies.  Dollop reserved whipped topping over parfaits, about 2 tablespoons for each.  Garnish with reserved fruit and mint if desired.

CREEDE TRIPTRIP TO CREEDE AS REPORTED BY NOMA

Our trip consisted of a stop in Pagosa Springs, where we took a group photo on the overlook to Wolf Creek Pass. We stopped in South Fork at the Visitors Center for lunch, visited with some of the Nelsons' friends camped there, and then proceeded to Creede.  Our lodging was cabins at Cottonwood Park Lodge along the Rio Grande River, about 6 miles south of Creede.  We went into the town to visit some of the shops and go site seeing, while some of the men chose to nap.  We had dinner at the Creede Hotel Restaurant next to the Repertory Theatre, where we saw the play "Swiss Family Robinson".  The day seemed to be enjoyed by all.  The next morning we had a lovely buffet breakfast furnished by the lodge.  The van then headed back to Mancos.  The Macurdas and Nelsons took the circular road trip into the mine area called Bachelor Loop Road.  It was a very scenic drive looking down into the town of Creede, of the surrounding mountains, and the remains of the old railroad and mining camps in the area.
